An illustrated lecture on Singapore's Everest quest and its triumphant conclusion when so many had given up hope of a summit success. The lecture will also include the main issues in the next millenium where high altitude mountaineering is concerned and socio-cultural vignettes of Nepalese life.


Alpine Mountaineering: Challenging Your Limits

A lighthearted look at technical alpinism in the Himalaya, French, Swiss and New Zealand Alps - together with alpine-climbing opportunities in South-East Asia. The lecture will focus on the different styles of mountaineering, climbing ethics, coping on the mountain and environmental and cultural issues.


About David Lim

David Lim, 38, is best known for leading the 1st Singapore Mt Everest Expedition in 1998 which succeeded in placing two members on the summit. His years of climbing have included setting new routes on rock-climbs in Singapore; climbs in Yosemite Valley and waterfall ice in France, the USA and Korea. A veteran of more than 35 alpine and Himalayan climbs, he has been on climbs in the French, Swiss and New Zealand Alps, Tibet, India and Nepal. In 1997, he led an expedition to and summitted Cho Oyu, 8201m

Dedicated to promoting mountaineering in a mountain-less city state, David is the Vice-President of the Singapore Mountaineering Federation and a Professional Member of the American Mountain Guides Association. As a writer, he has been published in the Himalayan Journal, Action Asia Magazine and various regional and national magazines and newspapers
